Virginia Movers and Warehouseman’s Association

by David Underwood, Manager and Original Two Team and a Truck Founder

Around Town Movers is a proud member of the Virginia Movers and Warehouseman’s Association (VWMA).

VMWA is a non-profit association of professional Virginia movers.  It was organized “to foster the interests of its Members, encourage and advance the spirit of unity and friendship among it’s Members, secure freedom from unjust or lawful exactions, to acquire, preserve and disseminate business information, and to do anything necessary which may recognized a proper and lawful objectives. All efforts of VMWA shall be consistent with the public interest and the interest of the Association and it’s Members.”

I am just back from an informational gathering of the VMWA membership and am very excited about having attended today’s session. Since I sold Two Team and a Truck in 2011 I have not attended any movers meetings.  It was great to see some old associates, meet new faces and become reengaged in this aspect of our industry.

Marketing methods was the primary topic of the meeting – as a matter of fact this is one of the reason why I am writing this blog post this evening – I am energized and excited about what we learned and discussed in the meeting.  Blogging is not only an important aspect of marketing but also a great way to stay in touch with our customers and provide interesting and useful information about the Virginia movers association.

We also discussed one of the biggest challenges that professional Virginia movers face:  overcoming the deceptive advertising and unrealistically low pricing of unlicensed and unprofessional moving companies.  Follow the link to  this Nightline video to see one of the worse moving nightmare/horror stories.   It will drive home the importance of dealing with licensed and reputable Virginia movers:

The VMWA is important to Virginia movers and to you as a consumer.  VMWA membership is mandatory in order for Virginia movers to comply with the tariff requirement in order to obtain and hold the Household Goods Moving Permit.  The tariff, along with state specific insurance filings to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, form the basis of licensing for professional Virginia movers.  If the company with the nice website and the low, low hourly rate seems to be too good to be true, it probably is not licensed and maybe not even insured.  Buyer beware – the mover you hire might not actually have any trucks or movers at all.  That would be a major problem for you on moving day if no one showed up… Regardless, more on that in another upcoming post.

When you book your move with Around Town Movers Around Town Mover you can be assured that you are dealing with a licensed and insured Virginia mover.  Call today for a free moving quote – who knows, if you time it right I could be ‘one of the Virginia movers  that comes out to give you the estimate for your next move!

See Ya Around Town!”
